If you decide to head over to our Seasons Fresh Buffet during Restaurant Month, don’t hesitate to try our famous Mexican Wedding cookies. These melt-in-your mouth, nutty shortbread-like cookies are hand prepared daily by our chefs. They are one of the most popular desserts at the buffet where you can also enjoy dozens of other dishes from around the world.

Barona Italian Cucina

A typical sweet served at traditional Mexican weddings, hence the name, these cookies are usually served after the wedding meal as a symbol of hope for a rich and full married life. The butter and sugar symbolize the richness of love and unity while the powdered sugar is said to represent purity.  They are so delicious they are now served a round the world at other celebrations, holidays and any day.

We get many requests for the recipe for these traditional treats.  They are one of my favorites too, and with one bite, you’ll see why. We’d like to share the recipe with you so you can treat yourself to their crumbly-goodness any time:

In reference to the $100,000 “Ginormous” Jackpot: It reads as follows:

    — The amount of cash awarded to the remaining players will be deducted from the $100,000 and the remaining amount will be split among the players at the winning table:
    ***50% to the losing hand***
    **25% to the winning hand
**25% to be split among the remaining qualified players

My question is why does the losing hand at the table win the most amount of money? Shouldn’t the person who got the winning hand win the most amount of money?

    • Hi Mark!

Thanks for the question. This bonus is what we call a “Bad Beat” Jackpot. It gives the person who has a strong hand, which in almost every case would win, but loses, a jackpot. So for this jackpot, if a person has Four ten’s or higher and loses, they will receive the biggest portion of the jackpot. I hope this clarifies the details for you. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Thanks for sharing the Mexican Wedding Cookie recipe with us. It definitely is a great way to finish off a great buffet. We’ve been coming to Barona since the “circus tent” days and have always enjoyed our visits. The buffet is the best of any casino in the area by far. The casino staff is very personable and always helpful, the casino itself is very comfortable and clean…and I absolutely LOVE all the “greeters” on the drive in and in the parking garage. We’ve never stayed at the hotel yet, and I’m eager to give the spa a try. Thank you Barona, for making yours such a great destination!

The food is always great at every restaurant at Barona, including the hot dog cart! Mexican Wedding Cookies are one of my favorite childhood memories of Christmastime, but my Mom called them Mexican Wedding Cakes. Either way, they are delicious!

  4. I love the food at Barnoa, and enjoy the coffee so much, what kind or type of coffee do they serve inside the restaurant , it is amazing
